Floating Raft
The snow is melting. The rivers are swollen with the spring run-off. The current is fast. The waves have grown in size and frequency. This marks early 2007 whitewater rafting season on the Arkansas River in Colorado's Rocky Mountains.
The upper Arkansas River basin received heavy snow this winter that offer whitewater enthusiasts "ample water for the upcoming whitewater season. 2007 promises to be one of the best rafting seasons in years as the Rocky Mountain West is recovering from drought conditions. Colorado Rivers, mainly depend on snowpack for water supply. Run Pico native-off usually occurs sometime in late May and June provide opportunities for more exciting whitewater. The Arkansas River is the only between Colorado Rivers where water resources are managed by the "Volunteer Program Stream." Water is stored in three reservoirs in the headwaters near Leadville. The entities that own and manage the waters that feed the Arkansas River have been coordinating with the Colorado State Parks and suppliers of equipment the Arkansas River to supplement the natural flow when it passes the snowmelt. This provides the Arkansas River with enough water at the end of the season to allow operations in whitewater until well into September.
The Arkansas River in southern Colorado rafting saw 282,381 trade visitors in 2006 to 3.97% in 2005. The numbers continue to grow as more and more travelers are realizing this is a sport that anyone can participate in under the direction of a licensed professional guide and owner. Rafting trips are very affordable, with prices ranging from $ 30 to $ 599 per person, depending on travel options and duration. The owner provides all the equipment from the river and some river trips include lunch or more meals if you are on a trip overnight. It is important to have tight PFD's (personal flotation device), and helmets. During the long off-peak wetsuits are required, as water temperatures can be as low as 40 °. Splash jackets, heavy jackets law are also provided to help eliminate the windchill. Swimwear during the hottest month of summer are the attire of choice. Sport sandals, water socks or an old pair of tennis shoes are suggested footwear. Contact lenses are not recommended. If you decides to wear glasses or sunglasses bring retaining wires, such as peers or to avoid losing croakies river. Plan on bringing waterproof protection as solar altitude of Colorado is open to the possibility of sunburn. Commercial guides operating in the Colorado River, are required to meet minimum state standards. Some sections of the river have more stringent requirements that the guides must meet before sailing passenger rafts. All guides are required to hold current CPR / First Aid certifications, and many exceed these requirements with certified Wilderness First Responder. Colorado River Guides undergo extensive training in security techniques rivers and river rescue situations that enables them to provide their guests with a safe and exciting journey. River guides are some of the most fun and colorful you'll ever meet. It is guided as a result of his passion for sport and the thrill of the adoption of this passion to his guests. Most of the guides are not only expert boatmen, but also have a working knowledge of the areas history and ecology. The salary of a guide is modest in the best on the amount of responsibility given to them. Twelve to fourteen hours a day are common during high season. The Raft
